Bedroom Dressers

Our bedrooms can easily get disorganized, so does our dressers. The dresser drawer can end up looking like an unruly mess unless we follow these easy tips:

  • Clear Out Your Dresser Drawers:
It is a good time to sort through your un-used belongings and get rid of things.
  • Make Similar Piles:
Create piles for similar or same use items such as jogging pants, t-shirts or tank tops.
  • Designate Similar Piles to Drawers:
Put your items back in the dresser drawers according to the similar piles you created. For example, designate one drawer to tank tops only or, one drawer for t-shirts only.

Additional Tips:

  • If you have minimal dresser space for combining similar piles in one drawer, put them organizedly together like t-shirts and tank tops can go in the same drawer. Just remember to keep the piles separate in order to make it easier to locate and put items back.
  • Keep undergarments organized by utilizing drawer storage.
  • Make a conscious effort when you are returning items back into the drawers to place them in the right place and in the right pile. This will save you time and confusion the next time you are searching for that item.
  • Organizing similar piles by style and color:
This is a great time-saver when you are searching for a particular item. For example, one dresser drawer can hold a pile of casual t-shirts - whites together in one pile, assorted colors in another pile. The same drawer can hold dressier shirts in a separate pile and workout shirts in another pile.

Updated Dresser

Boutiques that specialize in decor and home goods always have at least one: a fetching hand-painted dresser, its drawers pulled open and brimming with charming linens, or another set at an angle, its top laden with countless treasures, such as vintage silver, vaseline glass, or a stack of gardening books. Shop owners and interior decorators know that there's just something about a painted dresser that draws the eye and makes a room feel more inviting. To bring that feeling home, customize a dresser yourself, and place it in any room in the house. Depending on the dresser's shape, and the colors and hardware you choose, it can look elegant and formal, romantic and vintage, or sweet with cottage style.

Prep Tips for Painting

For a dresser finish that is beautiful and long lasting, clean its surfaces with mild soap and water, then let dry. Wipe drawers and sand with fine sandpaper, working with the grain. Sand it, too, to minimize the appearance of indentations from hardware, then dust thoroughly. For the most durable surface, use a primer followed by a satin-finish paint. (Note: High gloss can accentuate flaws.) Work outdoors to avoid fumes. Latex primer and paint may scratch, but are fine if the dresser will be used only occasionally.
